A unique feature exclusive to Magnolia is that it is a mere 2 hours from the city of Kannur on the Arabian sea coast in Kerala. Our staff will be delighted to organize a day-long picnic at the sunny beaches at Kannur.

Coorg is a sightseer's dream. It boasts of enormous natural beauty comprising green coffee estates, mountains, rivers, and wildlife sanctuaries. Magnolia’s location affords guests to visit these Coorg sightseeing places on day trips with a 90-minute one-way journey in most cases. The following is a non-exhaustive list of the places to visit in Coorg.

 

Abbey Falls

Coorg boasts of some scenic and exotic hill stations that are frequented by those seeking the green and serene. Among them, one such Coorg sightseeing location would be the Abbey falls.

Iruppu Falls

The river descends perpendicularly into a great cataract known as the Iruppu Falls, one of the places to visit in Coorg. This place is believed to possess the power to cleanse one's sins and is visited by thousands of devotees from far and near on Shivaratri day.

Dubare

Dubare is one of the places near Coorg that is mainly an elephant capturing and training camp of the Forest Department, at the edge of the Dubare forest, on the bank of river Kaveri, on the Kushalnagar - Siddapur road. The largest land animal is captured here with the help of tamed elephants and local tribals - the Kurbas - and is held captive for up to 6 months in large teak wood cages.

The tamed elephants attend to various jobs during the day and in the evenings they come down to the river to bathe and be scrubbed clean by their mahouts. Afterward, the mahout obliges eager tourists with free elephant rides within the camp. In the evenings, all the elephants are offered a special treat of ladoos made of ragi and jaggery, each no smaller than a cannonball!

Bhagamandala

When the river Cauvery flows downhill, it is joined by two more tributaries - Kanake and Sujyoti. The spot where all three converge (the Cauvery, the Kanika, and the Sujyothi) is called Bhagamandala which is one of the places to visit in Coorg. The temple here, built in Kerala style, has smaller shrines dedicated to various gods. It is about 40km from Madikeri or 90 minutes from Magnolia.

Nagarhole and Wynad National Parks

Nagarhole and Wynad being one of the Coorg sightseeing are twin wildlife parks in Karnataka and Kerala respectively. The parks are about 90 minutes from Magnolia and we arrange for day trips to parks. Stretching over hundreds of square kilometers, these reserve forests are home to Tigers, Panther, Leopard, Elephants, Deer of various sub-species, birds, Langoor, and other monkeys, the park has a rich forest cover, small streams, valleys, and waterfalls.

Namdroling Tibetan Monastery, Bylakuppe

Bylakuppe is the Tibetan resettlement, location of "Lugsum Samdupling" (established in 1961) and "Dickyi Larsoe" (established in 1969), in the west of the Mysore district. The Tibetan diasporas make up a population of about 40,000. It consists of a number of small camps/agricultural settlements close to each other and has a number of monasteries, nunneries, and temples in all the major Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Most notable among them are the large educational monastic institution Sera, the smaller Tashilunpo monastery (both in the Gelukpa tradition), and the Namdroling monastery (in the Nyingma tradition). The spectacular Golden Temple is a major tourist spot in the area.

Nisargadhama

Cauvery Nisargadhama is one of the places near Coorg situated about 36 km from Madikeri or about 90 minutes from Magnolia. This is an ideal picnic spot. It is an island in the middle of the river connected by a rope bridge. You can go boating or on elephant rides as well as visit the elephant training camp run by the Forest Department at Dubare (8km further).

Omkareshwara Temple

Omkareshwara temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is located in Madikeri town. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic styles of architecture. There is a tank in front of the temple with tons of fish in it and a footpath leading to a small Mantap. The temple has four minarets around it and a dome in the center (similar to a Muslim Masjid).

The Shivalinga now worshipped in the temple has its origins in Kashi. Among the many Shivalingas in Kashi five are considered the most sacred, and Omkareshwara is one of them.

Raja's Seat

According to legend, the kings of Kodagu spent their evenings here. Raja's Seat is one of the Coorg sightseeing makes unique as what's unforgettable about this place is the spectacular sunset that one can enjoy from here.

Valanoor

Valanoor, 30 km from Madikeri, the backwaters of river Cauvery is one of the most beautiful Angling sites in Karnataka. Types of fish include Golden-Masheer, Maral, and Mapp. License/permit can be arranged by local tourist agents.

Talakaveri / Talacauvery

River Kaveri which is one of the 7 sacred rivers of Sapta Sindhus of the Hindu scriptures, originated at a place called Talakaveri (head of Cauvery) in the Brahmagiri hills, at about 4,500ft above sea level. This place is marked by a tirtha kundike or Brahma kundike (small spring/pond) from where the river emerges as a small perennial spring but flows underground again to emerge a short distance away. It is about 48km from Madikeri or 90 minutes from Magnolia.

There is a shrine near the kundike and a big tank in front of it where devotees bathe before offering prayers. There are 2 temples, a Shiva temple with a rare and ancient Shiva Linga, and another temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This temple has a holy Ashwantha tree where, according to legend, the Trimurtis - Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh gave darshan to sage Agastya.

Legend also has it that every year on Tulasankramana day (approximately on 17 October) Goddess Parvati appears in the Kundike as the sacred teerthodbhava. This occasion is marked by the sudden upsurge of water in the kundike and is considered very auspicious

From Talakaveri, steps lead up to the nearby Brahmagri peak, where the 7 great sages called the Sapta Maharishis had performed a special yagna. From the peak, as well as on the drive to Talakaveri, one of the places near Coorg where tourists can enjoy a good view of the misty blue Brahmagiri hills.
